Skeletons at Punjab well found belonging to 282 Indian soldiers martyred in 1857 revolt

The skeletons that were dug up in Punjab in 2014 have been found to belong to 282 Indian soldiers who were martyred during India's first freedom struggle against the British in 1857, said Dr JS Sehrawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Panjab University. "These were excavated from a well found underneath a religious structure in Ajnala near Amritsar," he said.
