Small asteroid hits Earth's atmosphere
A metre-sized asteroid, designated 2026 RW1, entered Earth's atmosphere over Indian Ocean northwest of Australia. The object, estimated at 0.6-1.3 metres wide, was detected hours before atmospheric entry and disintegrated. NASA said it was only the 13th time an asteroid was detected before impact. It added that such events provide an "invaluable test of our planetary defense capabilities".
