Small rocky planet detected orbiting closest single star to Sun
short by Swati Dubey / on Thursday, 3 October, 2024
Astronomers have discovered a small rocky exoplanet, Barnard b, orbiting Barnard's star, the closest single star to the Sun. Barnard b has at least half the mass of Venus and completes its orbit in 3.15 Earth days. Twenty times closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun, its surface temperature reaches 125°C, making it uninhabitable.
