Solar cells hit 130% efficiency using spin-flip metal complex
short by Sourav Kumar / on Sunday, 29 March, 2026
Scientists at Kyushu University used a “spin-flip” metal complex to boost solar energy capture through singlet fission, achieving around 130% efficiency. Conventional solar cells capture only a small part of sunlight but this level of efficiency means that more energy carriers were produced than photons absorbed. Notably, it could pave way for much more powerful solar panels in the future.
