South Indian women spend seven hours a day on unpaid work: Survey

Women in South India spend nearly seven hours a day on unpaid domestic and caregiving work, over four hours more than men, according to the 2024 Time Use Survey. Despite improvements in education and economic indicators, the gender gap in unpaid labour remains stark across southern states, with women also shouldering a “double shift” of paid and unpaid responsibilities.
