South Korea's population declines for first time since 1970

South Korea recorded a decline in its population in 2020, the first time this has happened since 1970, according to official data. Last year, South Korea reported over 2.72 lakh births as compared to over 3.05 lakh deaths. South Korea's fertility rate, the number of expected babies per South Korean woman, was the lowest in the world at 0.84.
