Space technology companies Planetary Resources and Deep Space Industries have estimated that mining asteroids for metals could be worth over $100 trillion. The two companies are launching multiple spacecraft to analyse asteroids and identify the most valuable mining prospects. The US Senate is currently reviewing the 'Space Act' bill that will allow private companies to mine asteroids.
