Spain's parliament votes to extend state of emergency by 6 months

Spain's parliament has voted in favour of extending a two-week nationwide state of emergency by six months till May 9, giving regional authorities extra powers to control a second wave of COVID-19. Spain is one of Europe's worst-hit countries with over 11 lakh COVID-19 cases. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had announced a state of emergency on Sunday.
