Sri Lanka will buy 40,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol from the Indian Oil Corporation's (IOC) Sri Lankan subsidiary amid a fuel shortage in the country. The shortage was sparked by a foreign exchange reserve crisis in the country. The dwindling reserves have led to a shortage of nearly all essential items.
