Sri Lanka's most sacred elephant Nadungamuwa Raja dies aged 68

Sri Lankan authorities said a state funeral will be held for Nadungamuwa Raja, the country's most sacred elephant, which died aged 68 on Monday near Colombo. Raja was born in India in 1953 and reportedly gifted as one of two calves to a Sri Lankan monk by the King of Mysore. Raja's remains will be stuffed and preserved for posterity.
