Stanford develops fingertip-sized chip that boosts light 100x with low energy use
short by Sourav Kumar / on Wednesday, 6 May, 2026
Scientists at Stanford University have developed a fingertip-sized optical amplifier that strengthens light signals nearly 100 times while using only a few hundred milliwatts energy. The device reuses much of its input energy, by sending the light back into itself, allowing it to cover wider range of wavelengths. It could operate on battery power and be incorporated into small electronics.
