Star survives companion star's explosion caused by it

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured the first image of a star in the afterglow of a supernova that was witnessed 17 years ago. Astronomers noted the surviving star siphoned off almost all of the hydrogen from the companion star, causing it to explode. This picture is the most compelling evidence that some supernovas originate in double-star systems, said researchers.
