Silicon Valley startup R3 Bio is working on brain-free human organ platforms, or non-sentient "organ sacks", to replace animal testing and potentially supply organs for transplants. The company said that organ-only models could make testing more scalable. R3 Bio's co-founder and CEO Alice Gilman said they have developed technology to create organ sacks in mice but haven't implemented it yet.
