A child with thalassaemia major has become free from regular blood transfusions after a successful stem cell transplant using preserved newborn stem cells and freshly collected stem cells from his younger sibling. Doctors said the case highlights the potential of newborn stem cell preservation as a treatment option for eligible patients with thalassaemia.
