'Kaalkoot' writer-director Sumit Saxena shared that he thought of Vijay Varma as the perfect choice for the series. "[After I wrote 'Kaalkoot'], I had countless meetings with studios...asked them to cast Vijay. They'd say, 'Who the f**k is Vijay Varma?'" Sumit recalled. He added, "[In my head], I'd say, 'There'll be a time when you'll know who he is'."
