Study finds Lakshadweep corals facing crisis amid warming oceans

A new study highlights the worsening crisis facing coral reefs as rising ocean temperatures and marine heatwaves trigger widespread bleaching. In India’s Lakshadweep islands, coral cover has nearly halved, falling from 37% to 19%. Scientists warn that continued coral loss could threaten marine ecosystems, fisheries, tourism, food security and coastal protection.
