Scientists from Texas Biomedical Research University and University of Chicago discovered how SARS-CoV-2 protects itself while spreading, using the ORF3a protein to form "3a dense bodies" around the spike protein. Published in Nature Communications, the study could aid vaccine and drug development. Similar mechanisms were found in coronaviruses by bats and pangolins.
