Study ties oral disease to increased gallstone cholecystitis risk

A Surgery Today study found that moderate to severe periodontitis is far more common in patients with acute gallstone-related cholecystitis and is linked to higher inflammatory markers. Periodontitis was an independent predictor of cholecystitis, suggesting chronic oral inflammation may worsen gallbladder disease and underscoring the need to integrate dental care into patient management.
