NYU neuroscientist Nikolay Kukushkin said on the podcast that patterns in us stretch back billions of years to before brains existed. "That's my equivalent of religion," he said, describing a "divine trepidation" when thinking about it. "That's why I study memory," he said, as it has existed since cells but feels unique to us.
