'Sugar industry shifted heart disease blame to fat'

As per newly released documents, the Sugar Research Foundation, now known as the Sugar Association, paid $50,000-equivalent to Harvard scientists in mid-1960s to challenge the emerging evidence linking sugar consumption to cardiovascular diseases. The blame was instead transferred to saturated fat, even though the industry was aware of high cholesterol level risks due to excess sugar consumption.
