Suicides cost Japan's economy $4 billion a year

The potential economic loss to Japan from suicides is more than $4 billion (over ₹26,000 crore) a year, according to Japan's national broadcaster NHK. Official data has revealed that Japan has recorded over 30,000 suicides annually since 1998. Interestingly, Japan has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, at 83.3 years, as well as the highest suicide rates.
