The SC has identified eight factors for deciding alimony in matrimonial cases. These include social & economic status of both parties, future needs of the wife and children, qualifications, employment, income and assets, and the standard of living during marriage. Courts must also consider employment sacrifices, litigation costs, and the husband’s financial capacity, obligations, and liabilities.
