Supreme Court rules Monsanto can own patents on GM cotton in India

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that US seed maker Monsanto can claim patents on its Genetically Modified (GM) cotton seeds in India. This overturns a Delhi High Court ruling, which had held that seeds and plants cannot be patented under Indian laws. The Delhi High Court will now decide if Indian companies infringed Monsanto's patent on Bt cotton seeds.
