Surat gets ready to burn a 75-foot Ravana effigy on Dussehra

A 75-foot effigy of Ravana has been erected in Surat, Gujarat, as preparations for Dussehra celebrations are underway. Millions across India are marking the Hindu festival with processions, prayers and the burning of giant effigies, symbolising the victory of good over evil. The traditional Ravana Dahan ceremony is scheduled to take place after sunset on October 20.
