Suspected separatist insurgents attacked a security checkpoint in southern Thailand and killed at least 15 people, including a police officer, security officials said on Wednesday. "This is one of the biggest attacks in recent times," a regional security spokesman said. Many of the dead at checkpoint were reportedly members of the Village Defence Volunteers, a community-watch type organisation.
