Sweden approves plan for underground nuclear waste storage facility

Sweden on Thursday approved the plan to build an underground storage facility to keep its spent nuclear fuel safe for the next 1 lakh years. The facility will be built 500 metres underground in Forsmark. "We're doing this to take responsibility, both for...environment and people, but also for Sweden's long-term electricity production and the jobs," Environment Minister Annika Strandhäll said.
