A Swedish court has sentenced a former Iranian official to life in prison for participating in the mass execution and torture of political prisoners in Iran in 1988. Hamid Nouri was arrested at a Stockholm airport in 2019 and was tried under the principle of universal jurisdiction. Iran said that "Nouri's sentence was politically motivated and...has no legal validity".
