Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani called the decision by the EU to lift economic sanctions against the country "a new historic milestone". He said the move will strengthen security, stability and prosperity in Syria, adding that the country "deserves a bright future worthy of its people and civilisation". Earlier, US had said it would lift its sanctions on Syria.
