System to log in through skull vibrations developed
short by Anmol Sharma / on Friday, 3 April, 2026
Rutgers University researchers have developed software called VitalID that authenticates users on VR and AR headsets using unique vibration patterns in the skull caused by breathing and heartbeats. Every person's skull shape, bone structure and facial tissue create a distinct pattern detected by existing headset sensors. It was tested over 10 months and was found to be over 95% accurate.
