Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has been killed in an American airstrike, a senior Taliban commander has said. The Afghanistan government confirmed the airstrike, which American officials claimed targeted Mansoor in a Pakistani town near the Afghanistan border. Mansoor was appointed the leader of the Taliban last year, after the death of Mullah Omar was reported.
