Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami on Thursday announced that two new districts, Tenkasi and Chengalpattu, would be carved out of Tirunelveli and Kancheepuram respectively. With these two, the total number of districts in the state has reached 35. "The bifurcation is done for administrative convenience following representations from Ministers, MLAs and the general public," the CM said.
