Tamil Nadu government has cancelled a global tender for smart meters awarded to Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) citing high costs. Power generation and distribution company Tangedco found Adani's prices "unacceptable despite negotiations". AESL was the lowest bidder for one of the four packages covering eight districts, including Chennai, and involving installation of over 82 lakh smart meters.
