Hearing a techie’s appeal against a family court order directing him to pay ₹40 lakh as permanent alimony, the Jharkhand High Court increased the amount to ₹70 lakh. The court observed that maintenance should ensure a wife lives with "reasonable comfort" and doesn't face "financial helplessness" after marriage breakdown. "This amount balances the financial capacity of the husband," it said.
