Recently retired cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been appointed by UNICEF as its ambassador for South Asia. He will aid UNICEF for the next two years in promoting hygiene and sanitation in South Asian countries including India. According to UNICEF, 68 lakh people practice open defecation in South Asian countries, of which India alone accounts for 60 lakh people.
