Tesla has never made an annual profit in almost 15 years since the company was launched, CEO Elon Musk said in an email to employees. Adding that profit "is not what motivates us", Musk also said that to achieve the company's mission of transitioning to sustainable energy, Tesla has to demonstrate that it can become sustainably profitable.
