Telangana is encouraging farmers to shift to oil palms as it is targeting two million additional acres for their cultivation over the next four years, a Reuters report said. This could reduce India's vegetable oil import which was $18.9 billion a year ago. India imports nearly 14 million tonnes of vegetable oil annually to meet two-thirds of its demand.
