Refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi will be freed by Thailand and return to Australia after his home country Bahrain withdrew its extradition request. Hakeem, who fled to Australia in 2014 and was granted a refugee status in 2017, was arrested in Bangkok on November 27, 2018 when he arrived for honeymoon. He was accused of vandalising a police station in Bahrain.
