American author JD Salinger's critically-acclaimed novel 'The Catcher in the Rye' was published on 16 July 1951. The book, centred around a teenage boy, was the only novel that Salinger wrote in his lifetime. With more than 65 million copies sold, the book was included in TIME magazine's list of the top-100 novels of all time, in 2010.
