Air India was founded in 1932 as Tata Air Services, which went on to become the national air carrier, connecting India to over 60 international destinations. Tata Chairman JRD Tata, an aviation pioneer, played a pivotal role in the airline's formation. It went from Tata Air Services to Tata Airlines and finally became Air India in 1946.
