The rise of UK's South Asian 'Daytimers' in the '80s and '90s

When first-generation South Asian immigrants-mainly Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis-in the UK wouldn’t let their children go out and party on Friday nights, it led to cultural and generational tensions. The youth found a way out by organising events in nightclubs during the afternoon. These partygoers became known as 'Daytimers', and the culture came to be known as 'Daytime Discos'.
