A new IIT Kharagpur study warns that the Bay of Bengal is becoming a seismic hotspot. Heavy sediment loads from the Ganges and Brahmaputra, combined with shifting tectonic plates, are reactivating ancient underwater fractures, increasing the likelihood of tectonic intraplate quakes along India's eastern coast.
