The Sun, which appears white in space, seems yellow on Earth because of the Earth's atmosphere. Sunlight comprises a spectrum of colours that together produce the colour white. However, in the atmosphere, the colours blue, indigo and violet are scattered away, thus making the Sun appear yellowish-orange to the human eyes.
