There is a double-decker living root bridge in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, which is believed to be the only one of its kind in the world. Numerous other living root bridges are spread across the Khasi Hills region. These bridges are known to have been built by the Khasi community, over 100 years ago, by tending roots to form a bridge.
