The Third Battle of Panipat was fought between the Marathas and forces of the Afghan ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali on January 14, 1761. The battle was won by the Afghans and as a result, the Marathas lost their control in North India. It also turned out to be a fall of Mughal Empire and rise of the British in India.
