Thousands throng Cauvery ghats for Mahalaya Amavasya

Thousands of devotees gathered at Cauvery River ghats in Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli, on Saturday for Mahalaya Amavasya. Devotees from across Tamil Nadu took a holy dip and performed tharpanam (ancestral rites). The turnout was higher than usual as the occasion coincided with a public holiday. Many also visited the Ranganathaswamy and other temples.
