TikTok to pay $400 million to settle US child privacy case

TikTok and Chinese parent ByteDance have agreed to pay $400 million to settle US Justice Department allegations that the app violated children's online privacy. The lawsuit accused the companies of illegally collecting information from users under 13 without parental consent. TikTok will pay $300 million upfront and another $100 million after an earlier FTC order is withdrawn.
