Tiny 12-mm fish found to make sounds as loud as pneumatic drill

Danionella cerebrum, one of the world's tiniest fish discovered three years ago, uses a distinct drumming mechanism to generate sounds as loud as a pneumatic drill, a study has found. The translucent fish, found in Myanmar, measuring under 12 mm, produces sounds over 140 decibel using its sound production apparatus, which includes special cartilage, a unique rib, and fatigue-resistant muscle.
