The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced that the Centre-proposed AIIMS will be opened in Thoppur near Madurai and CM E Palaniswami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the same. The AIIMS will be built at an estimated cost of ₹1,500 crore. The AIIMS was announced in Union Budget 2015-16 but faced some delays due to location of the institute.
