TN set to erase caste names from thousands of villages, streets
The Madras High Court upheld Tamil Nadu’s guidelines to remove caste-based or objectionable names from public places. The court noted that 8,171 habitations, 17,993 streets and other sites had been identified for renaming, with a 21-day objection period. It said removing caste markers would promote equality and eventually make such names disappear from public use.
