The tomb of Syria's ousted ex-President Bashar al-Assad's father, Hafez al-Assad, was set on fire by rebel fighters in his hometown of Qardaha. The mausoleum housing the tombs of other Assad family members, including Bashar's brother Bassel, was also set ablaze. A statue of Hafez, who was President of Syria from 1971 to 2000, was also toppled near Damascus earlier.
